Students

The Center for New Technology Enterprise (“Center”) is an independent nonprofit educational organization. Simultaneously with providing a comprehensive, world-class trans-disciplinary experiential educational program to its students, the Center advances science by (i) giving its students real-world experience in facilitating the commercialization of technology from universities, other private and public research organizations, and government facilities, (ii) fostering an efficient “lab to market” process focusing on practical education in new enterprise formation and development, and (iii) harnessing the talents and motivation of students from a wide variety of disciplines to enhance their education by gaining actual experience to jump-start their careers. In keeping with the Center’s interest in employing the most cutting-edge technologies to advance its mission, most of the Center’s activities and collaborations are conducted in a virtual environment with the utmost security and confidentiality where required.

To furnish the practical educational experiences that our students need and desire, the Center collaborates not only with private and public research institutions and government facilities, but also with entrepreneurs, emerging companies, professional service providers, and the government agencies and private organizations that support each of them. These collaborations enable our students to learn the skills and gain the experience necessary to achieve a head start in pursuing successful careers in the technology sector or becoming entrepreneurs themselves, all under the supervision of experienced professionals, seasoned mentors and the Center’s staff.

Educating in Commercializing Technologies and Nurturing Emerging Companies

The centerpiece of the Center’s program is the trans-disciplinary experiential learning in which students will engage.  Students from a variety of disciplines work in teams to evaluate technologies from universities and other research facilities technically and commercially find new applications and identify entrepreneurs who would create new companies.  New venture creation by students is strongly encouraged.

Student teams also provide, to qualified emerging companies, whether they emanated from student-evaluated technologies and regardless of where they are located, an extensive array of business, legal, technical, regulatory, communications and other services.

The student teams are supervised and mentored not only by the Center’s staff but also by members of an extensive network of professional service providers from many disciplines, serial entrepreneurs, executives and investors.  Students will have an important role in deciding with which companies the Center will work.  The goal is not only to assist emerging companies but also to enable the students to gain experience in applying their education to solve complex and sophisticated challenges, become comfortable working with students and experts in other disciplines, and enhance their personal competitiveness.

Teaching Global Collaboration and Inspiring Entrepreneurship among Youth

Students will participate fully in the Center’s robust international activities, as well as its efforts to promote entrepreneurship among undergraduates and students in elementary, middle and secondary schools.  Students will participate in collaborations with educators, school boards, economic and entrepreneurial development experts and organizations, whose missions included inspiring students to pursue careers in math, science, engineering, technology and business,.  Students will participate in the development and implementation of courses and curricula and provide trans-disciplinary services to young entrepreneurs with the objectives of nurturing their businesses and empowering them to derive commercial value from their inventions and discoveries.

Shaping the Future of Practical Education of Entrepreneurs and Professionals

Students will also play a major role in developing, producing and implementing live and on-line conferences, tutorials, articles and web casts covering topics relevant to the commercialization of technology and helping entrepreneurs create and grow successful businesses.  These programs will emphasize practical applications and provide the participant with a compendium of resources to use when the need arises.  Students will also conduct research and help prepare policy options that can be presented to government officials and opinion leaders to facilitate the commercialization process and assist emerging companies in securing funding.

Training Professionals and Entrepreneurs Who Can Master Future Opportunities

The Center is seeking highly qualified graduate, professional and undergraduate students in many fields, including, but not limited to business, law, engineering, the life and physical sciences, medicine and communications, with creativity, open, adaptable and inquiring minds, and excellent communications skills.  Enrollment in an educational institution is not required; the Center welcomes applications from any qualified individual who wants to learn something new and obtain a sound experiential education in the technology sector. Fluency in spoken and written English and computer literacy are required.  The Center does not charge students for participating in its program.

Students can participate for one or more semesters, including summer sessions.  Because of the nature of the work and the desirability of continuity, the Center prefers that students participate for the equivalent of at least two semesters.

Students may apply to volunteer, or for externships/internships to receive academic credit from their home institutions.  Paid positions may also be available depending on funding.  To apply, please send a resume, cover letter, and writing sample that no other person has edited, to apply@newtechenterprise.org.  The cover letter must indicate that the applicant has read and understands the Student Participation Guidelines and Instructions (“Student Guidelines”).  Applications will be reviewed as they are received, and a member of the Center’s staff will interview each applicant in person, by telephone or on-line before the Center decides whether to accept the applicant.  Upon acceptance, students must sign the Student Guidelines before they will be permitted to work with clients or be given access to the secure portion of the Center’s web site.
